About Me

I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Wayne State College, Nebraska, majoring in social sciences. After graduating, I began my teaching career in Omaha, where I worked as a district substitute and as an eighth-grade Language Arts/Social Studies teacher.

I moved to Aurora in 1987 with my husband, Tony, and we have been residents of Aurora ever since.

My ties to Aurora Public Schools run deep. I worked as a substitute teacher in both the Cherry Creek School District and Aurora Public Schools while my sons were little, which allowed me some flexibility to be at home with them while they grew.

Once my sons started school, I worked as a counselor and teacher at Excelsior Youth Center in Aurora while pursuing an endorsement in Special Education at the University of Denver. After receiving this endorsement, I began working as an elementary special education teacher in APS at Kenton Elementary School. I worked at Kenton Elementary School for 20 years, and then at Montview Elementary until I retired in 2018.

Working with and advocating for children has always been my passion, and is what I spent my entire 36 year career in education practicing.

I have been involved in APS as a teacher, mother, community member, and most recently as a Board of Education Director. I believe in our public schools as community resources and places where students can learn and grow. I’ve spent the last four years on the School Board ensuring that our students and educators have what they need to succeed, and I want to continue to do just that for the next four years.

With many changes in APS, I hope to provide some stability and valuable experience to a new board.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

APS has made great strides in the name of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the past few years. I want to build on that momentum and trust to provide inclusive and culturally responsive education for all APS students. It’s crucial that we continue to have these conversations as a district to ensure our students and our staff feel equally welcome and safe in their work  and learning environments.

Career Pathways

Our world is changing rapidly, and it is imperative that we ensure our students are prepared for whatever challenges they may face in this ever changing workforce. I’m excited about the work the district is doing to offer students more career and technical education, as well as science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) programming. I will work to further develop partnerships in and around the APS community that will lead to more opportunities for our students to explore different career pathways and enhance their own learning experiences.

Safety

Our students and staff need to feel safe in school. Long term safety means creating better, more inclusive, and welcoming school environments. We need to continue to increase the safety of our schools in order to create a welcoming, comfortable learning environment for all of our students.
